How it works?
What does the uHDMS do?
The uHDMS generates a DVB-T (Freeview) signal which is technically identical to those received on a terrestrial aerial from the local Freeview transmitter. It is able to be viewed on any Freeview compatible television.
What about High Definition?
High definition signals are generated in exactly the same way as standard definition, and transmitted along the same coaxial cables. Digital Media Projects are able to do this ahead of the proposed UK launch of national terrestrial HD broadcasts.
Will it interfere with normal Freeview reception?
The uHDMS broadcast frequency is completely configurable. DMP will set it up to use a different frequency than the local broadcast Freeview channels.
How is it installed?
A typical install will have the uHDMS in a server room/back office near the AV distribution board. All that is required is power in and coax out. The output from the uHDMS is fed in to a 2-way splitter, the other input being from terrestrial aerial. The splitter then goes directly into your distribution board. Installation can be completed within 30 minutes - all you then need to do is re-tune the televisions to see your custom content alongside standard Freeview channels.
How do I update the content?
Content can be updated manually by uploading video to the uHDMS and using the web-based administration panel, or using DMPÕs unique online content distribution service which allows all locations to be automatically kept in sync.
How many custom channels can I have?
The DVB distribution will support up to 8 standard definition channels or 3 high definition channels depending on encoding quality.
What if I need more channels?
The uHDMS is fully scalable, so for more channels over Freeview simply add more servers. In addition, the uHDMS is also a very capable IPTV head-end, which will stream up to 50 channels over a standard computer network.
What are the advantages of IPTV?
IP offers more channels over virtually any distance without any loss of signal using a standard computer network. Because it is a computer network, cabling is straightforward and cost-effective, and offers absolute control over the display.
Are there any disadvantages?
Standard televisions cannot receive IP signals, so unlike the DVB option, an IP-capable set-top box is required for each display.
How can I advertise special offers?
IP allows you to use elements such as tickers and graphics as well as video. This enables displayed content to be changed at will, much more easily than remastering video.
