GPL-supplied Cisco encoders enhance offerings to global football fans
Fans Follow English Premier League Team Live Online

This summer, thousands of fans of an English Premier League football team took advantage of the opportunity to watch their team live online as it played a pre-season friendly match overseas. The game was streamed live on the club’s online TV website using an encoder from Cisco supplied by Garland Partners Limited.
The game and live broadcast gave fans outside the UK a unique chance to see their favourite players in action, and provided the team with the ideal circumstances to showcase its new adaptive player.
With fans of UK football located all over the world, many teams are looking for ways to give their fans the ability to follow their teams wherever they may play in the world. Garland Partners is helping them accomplish this goal. By streaming games live on a team’s website, they can bring the action to fans everywhere.
Viewers watching this summer’s game live online were even treated to pre-match commentary and player interviews before the first match. Then the full 90-minute match was streamed live, with fans able to capture the excitement of every goal scored.
“We provided the team with a Cisco AS8100 HD live streaming encoder to stream H264 to their new player on their online TV site,” says Lorna Garrett, Director of Garland Partners. “This allowed for three different bitrate streams at 3.2Mbps (720p), 1.0MBps (480p) and 500Kbps (480p) to maximize the quality for the viewers.
