Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen
Case Study- 20th December 2009
From 7-18 December 2009, Videojuicer, with support from Inlet Technologies and Garland Partners Limited (GPL) helped to promote the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) which was held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
To promote the event sculptor, Mark Coreth created beautiful ice-sculptured polar bears that were shown in various locations, including Trafalgar Square and at the Copenhagen WWF tent. Over the course of the event, the ice slowly melted to reveal a bronze skeleton. Organisers believed that this creative piece would form a connection between the people touching the polar bear and the critical conditions in the Arctic.
"Climate change is considered one of the world's most greatest challenges. There is a need for everyone to limit their CO2 emissions," states the event's website, icebearproject.org/info.
The event was designed to raise awareness and to promote conservation of wildlife that is diminishing due to climate change. On 14 May 2009, the polar bear became the first mammal to be listed as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act as a direct result of global warming.
To allow streaming of the event, Garland Partners provided an Inlet Spinnaker 5000. The Spinnaker family of encoding solutions enables broadcast-quality streams over the internet to multiple devices. This event was streamed live via the web, including sites www.telegraph.co.uk and www.NewScientist.com.
"We are delighted to be supporting the United Nations Climate Conference with out Spinnaker encoders," said Don Bossi, Chairman and CEO for Inlet Technologies, "and are very pleased with the successful outcome of this collaborations with Videojuicer, though ouour UK partner Garland Partners Limited."

GPL represents and supplies Inlet Technologies' products within the UK and provides a full package of technical and commercial support in the region.
Online Video provides an ideal platform for raising awareness of issues such as climate change to a wider audience on a global basis. Videojuicer is a video technology and services company defining the creative potential for web video. They can provide a scalable online platform that enables large and small publishers to upload, syndicate, analyse, and monetise video content.
The Ice Bear Project gained exposure as people logged on and were able to view at any time of the day. It was also embedded into blogs and the URL spread through social networking sites, including through Twitter updates.
Global warming is happening, and broadcasting projects such as this one help highlight the issue to many people. Hopefully, as people become more aware of the situation, CO2 emissions will decrease and the natural habitat of polar bears and many other wildlife will be saved.
