Streaming Media 2010

News Release - 22 October 2010

As Gold sponsors of Streaming Media Europe 2010, GPL had a very successful exhibition showcasing the latest Broadcast and Streaming products from their two main partners Inlet Technologies and LiveU - as well the first GPL-branded product.

From Inlet, the latest Spinnaker 8100 HD live streaming encoder was streaming out 18 simultaneous video streams to three different end platforms;
  • Webstreaming to the PC (in 8 x VC-1 Smooth Streaming steps)
  • Adaptive streaming to iPad (6 Streams)
  • Adaptive streaming to iPhone (4 Streams).
The latest Spinnaker 6000 IP Live Transcoder was also on display and VoD clips from the Inlet Armada VoD platform were also played out on the iPad.

GPL was demonstrating the LiveU LU-30 3G mobile uplink solution and LU-1000 downlink server software as well as showcasing in the UK - for the first time - the HD-60 uplink backpack. Due for release early 2011, the unit will provide higher bandwidth and connectivity thanks to LiveU’s own custom-built antenna. Video transmission can break free from limitations of conventional, stationary and expensive satellite links. Dead zones turn into "live zones".

GPL proudly unveiled their first self-branded product. Named the ‘Squirtbox,’ this low-cost H.264 RTMP media streaming encoder allows for a standalone, robust solution for 24/7 streaming.

However, the excitement of the show didn't stop at GPL's display inside. Parked outside was online broadcaster Jackshoot’s compact live OB truck which was streaming back over satellite broadband, high quality video streams from their Spinnaker 7100 , supplied by GPL.
The choice to use a Spinnaker 7100 supplied by GPL also boded well for ITV - one of the UK's biggest commercial television station. They recieved The Best Mobile App Readers Choice Award this year for their World Cup iPhone App which was based on the Spinnaker 7100. Congratulations ITV!

Streaming Media ran alongside the Content Delivery Summit and included seminars from some of the most influential people from the world of online streaming, IPTV , transcoding, and media delivery.

Mike Barros, Sales Director for Inlet Technologies moderated a lively panel with input from TV2 Sumo, Level3, YouView and RTL. The panels' topic was ‘Creating Great Live Video Experiences- From Mobile to HD’. GPL’s very own Malcolm Harland chaired a seminar on ‘Infrastructure Trends: ‘Death Star, Distributed or Cloud CDN Models,’ with panellists from Edgeware, Blue Coat Systems and Verivue Inc.

It was a busy show throughout the two days, with lots of exciting opportunities and contacts. Thank you to everyone who came to visit the GPL stand and for your interest in some of the latest solutions for this market.
