SHARE
Broadcasting Events to Share with the World
School Districts are broadcasting guest speakers, concerts, and district board meetings live to the internet and storing them for on-demand viewing. Colleges and Universities are broadcasting large-scale sporting events, graduation ceremonies, speeches, forums, and symposiums to their alumni, disparate campuses, and parents all over the world.GPL will help you to find solutions of all sizes with the ability to broadcast anything you choose to anyone in the world, quickly and easily.
Sharing Experiences
When Dr. Robert Ballard returned to the Titanic twenty years after he first discovered it, he streamed the live video from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean using VBrick technology. Today, your institution can take students to places they might never be able to go using live, streaming technology.Broadcast Guest Lectures
Any lecture hall or concert venue can become a broadcast point for students, faculty,
and staff. Broadcast and store guest lectures and make them available for future
viewing or share them with affiliated institutions or satellite campuses.
COLLABORATE
Collaborate with Satellite Campuses
Video is one of the most efficient and effective ways to bridge time and space. What’s more, it gives each and every student the opportunity to learn in the same environment, no matter where they are located.Enabling Distance Learning
For institutions in remote locations or for satellite campuses, distance learning has become an essential tool in the quest to provide a well-rounded education. Our partners' network appliance solutions enable students to participate in classes live with high-quality video and audio in real-time.Two-Way Interaction
As any educator knows, student-teacher interaction is an important part of the learning process. We understand this and can help enable live, two-way interaction between distant campuses giving each and every student the same learning experience.
Example solution for Mediacal School
-
'Open access' operation rooms
Enable students, trainees and medical staff to virtually be inside the operation room. Low-delay camera transmissions with professional detail image resolution are possible with Teracue products. The video quality is very high, allowing for videos to be projected inside class rooms, lecture theaters and auditoriums.
-
Communicate and interact with professors, doctors and surgeons
The ENC-Talkback utility enables students or trainees from lecture halls to talk with the medical staff inside the operation room. Audio conferencing between the 'input' and 'output' side of such an IP video environment is possible, allowing for real-time questions and answers - directly and on-the-spot. Participants are able to experience "true" interactive training sessions. The audio communication travels via the same network path as the video transmission - no need for additional cabling and wiring.
-
Chief surgeon real-time assistance:
Streams from operation rooms can also be provided to the office desktop PCs of chief surgeons. When a critical moment during an operation or transplant arises and top-level advise is needed, the operation room can ask for assistance. If chief surgeons cannot reach the operation room in time - they join and assist the operation directly from their desktops.
-
Recording for documentation and archiving:
The live streams from the operation room can simultaneously be used for all digital recordings. Operations and training sessions can easily be captured and preserved - safely and securely with the iCue streaming server. Metadata can be added to the recordings in the form of descriptions. Manual, semi-automatic and fully scheduled recordings enable efficient workflows. To ensure secure handling of critical video content, the recordings can be configured to only be accessible by the recording owner (surgeon); later he may published this video to other users or complete user-groups.
-
Creating highlight videos and training clips:
Extracting highlights from long recording sessions or transplants is necessary to create new video training clips for students or to demonstrate results to partner clinics, universities or institutes. This can be done directly on the server, where the content has been recorded - without losing the video's permissions, without having critical content stored locally.
-
Highlights from long recordings can be extracted with a few mouse clicks:
- The new highlight clip can be accessed from inside the classroom as audio-visual lecture material
- Made available and posted as video on-demand training clips, for viewing on in-house workstations. Students and staff are able to train and review - by re-viewing at their own pace
- The video can be exported and compressed for electronic transfer. The video can be shared by creating a DVD/CD or distribution by Email/FTP
Example solution for University
The following University applications can be supported by VBrick products:
- Challenge
For more than two decades, Oklahoma State University has used video technology to help bridge the distance between their three campuses. In the past, a complex and costly analog satellite system delivered live video from classrooms at each campus so students could participate and collaborate.
In addition, more and more teachers began recording their classes and asking their media services team to encode and upload videos to their class websites, this time consuming process took its toll on the media services team.
While they looked for a solution they also hoped to be able to capitalize on their exiting studio and broadcast infrastructure to enable live broadcasts of graduations, speaking engagements and sporting events to the entire student body, both live and on-demand.
- Solution
OSU’s system encompasses more than a dozen classrooms where classes are broadcast live onto their network. Each class is also recorded so students at remote campuses can access the classes as they happen, or log on to view the classes at a later time.
VBrick’s system integrated directly into the existing OSU network. With a single sign-on directly tied into their LDAP system, students, faculty and staff can use a “single sign-on” to access only the content they are allowed to view.
In addition, VBrick’s EtherneTV system is connected directly to their broadcast facility where everything from distance-learning classes to sporting events are produced. This tight integration allows anything produced in the facility to be broadcast and recorded right through EtherneTV.
- Benefit
By connecting each campus with VBrick’s EtherneTV system, OSU has reduced the burden on their media services team by automating the recording, encoding and distribution process. In addition, the network distribution has all-but-removed their dependency on satellite broadcasts.
EtherneTV’s LDAP integration has made the system a completely integrated part of the OSU technology platform and reduces the IT maintenance and oversight of the system guaranteeing that only content approved for distribution is available.
Long term, OSU’s staff believes that video technology will change the way that higher education is delivered. Now, with the ability to time-shift classes students can decide how they would like their classes delivered broadening the possibilities.
