AmiNET500

The AmiNET500 supports High Definition, H.264 (MPEG4/AVC) video streams.

Summary

When combined with suitable middleware or application software, features such as time-shifting, pause and trick-play of live material, instant-record, and instant replay are supported.

Coupled with a suitable EPG application, the AmiNET500 allows scheduled record of two streams simultaneously. It can also provide RSTP streams to one or more other set-top boxes, such as the AmiNET103 or AmiNET110.

Usage Scenarios

When combined with suitable middleware or application software, features such as time-shifting, pause and trick-play of live material, instant-record, and instant replay are supported. Coupled with a suitable EPG application, the AmiNET500 allows scheduled record of up to two streams simultaneously. The AmiNET500 can also provide RTSP and multicast video streams to one or more other set top boxes, such as the AmiNET103 or AmiNET110.

Secondary Data Recording

The AmiNET500 records all closed caption and secondary language data along with the video - ensuring that these are available during replay.

On-Demand Services

Video-on-demand services provide an opportunity to substantially increase revenue. The AmiNET500 includes an RTSP Client to support the deployment of video-on-demand.

Push Content Support

Where the network bandwidth, or quality of service is insufficient for direct access to on-demand video streams, premium video content can be uploaded in non-real time to the AmiNET500 for subsequent playback with full trick-play support.

Non-Broadcast Applications

With the ability to store and output high quality audio and video presentations, the AmiNET500 is also suitable for nonbroadcast applications such as:
• Retail displays and kiosks
• Interactive information kiosks
• Exhibition video server

Record and Play-back Capability

The record and play-back capabilities of the AmiNET500 are comprehensive, and depend on the bit rate of the video streams, and the functionality provided by the middleware. Assuming the video streams are coded at a constant bit-rate of 4Mbits/sec, up to five streams can be read or written
simultaneously. Hence, the AmiNET500 can support all, or a sub-set of, the following simultaneous operations:
• Record two channels
• Output recorded material to one other STB via RTSP stream
• Time-shift the current live channel, with full trick play, or watch recorded material
Other combinations may be possible, depending on stream bandwidth and operations permitted by the middleware. Streams encoded at variable bit-rate may impose additional limits.

Installation

Installation requires an IP Connection (eg ADSL to Ethernet modem). Installer configuration is via on-screen display.

Content Security

As a condition of licensing, content owners frequently mandate that distribution networks implement conditional access and copy protection. AmiNET500 is compatible with a variety of smartcard-based and smartcard-less content protection & rights management software, allowing customers to choose the appropriate security to meet their needs.

Supported Middlewares

The AmiNET500 is supported by a range of IPTV middleware products - consult an Amino sales representative for the latest information.

Application Development

Amino software technology is based on open standards such as Linux and Java. Application developers for the AmiNET500 benefit from a Java API, providing full control of the PVR and

STB functions. Multi-cast Loader

The Amino Multi-cast server software ensures that any DHCPconfigured Amino set-top (such as the AmiNET500) connecting to the network, or powered-up, is rapidly and securely loaded with the latest signed software image authorised by the service provider. The multi-cast loader is installed on a Linux PC at the head-end, and transmits the software image in a continuous carousel, ensuring rapid start-up regardless of the number of set-tops in the system. Available under a separate license
agreement.
